Stop Praying to the Wrong Person

Most Christians pray the way they’ve been taught—straight to Jesus.

But here’s the shocker: Christ never told anyone to pray to Him. Not once. Instead, He pointed every prayer past Himself—to His Father.

That’s not a minor detail. It’s the core of Christ’s mission. He came not to absorb attention but to direct it—to reveal the Father we never knew.

The Biblical Target

Think of Jesus (Yahshua) as the arrow. Arrows don’t exist to be admired—they exist to fly. His whole life, death, and resurrection aimed at one target: the Father.

“I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.” (John 20:17)

Ignore that trajectory and you miss the point. You end up stuck, gazing at the arrow instead of reaching the goal.

The Model Prayer—A Blueprint, Not a Script

When the disciples asked how to pray, Christ didn’t hand them a mantra. He gave them a model:

“When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven…” (Matthew 6:9)

This wasn’t meant for word-for-word repetition (He warned against “vain repetitions,” v. 7). It was a pattern: begin with the Father, honor His name, seek His Kingdom, align with His will.

The true “Lord’s Prayer” is John 17, where Yahshua Himself prays to the Father—showing us what real intimacy with Him looks like.

The Forgotten Authority

Here’s the hard truth: the Father is greater than Christ (John 14:28). Yahshua sits at His right hand, subject to Him, awaiting the day He’ll deliver the Kingdom back to His Father (1 Corinthians 15:24–28).

That doesn’t diminish Christ—it clarifies His role. He is Savior, High Priest, and King of kings. But even His reign flows from the Father’s authority. To stop at Christ is to camp on the bridge instead of crossing it.

The Worship Christ Rejected

Christ warned against worship that shouts His name but ignores His Father:

“In vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” (Mark 7:7)

Today, many churches market “Jesus” while sidelining the Father. That’s not devotion—that’s distortion. Worship that counts connects us to the Father, through the Son, in Spirit and truth (John 4:23–24).

Why This Matters Now

Eternal life isn’t just believing in Jesus. It’s knowing both—“the only true God, and Jesus Christ [Yahshua Messiah] whom He has sent”(John 17:3). That’s the relationship Christ came to open. That’s the Family God is building.

Miss this, and you miss the Kingdom.

The Call

Tonight, before bed, don’t recite words. Instead, kneel down and pray to the Father—in Christ’s name. Thank Him for access. Ask for His Kingdom to come. Align your will with His.

Stop aiming short. Let Christ’s arrow take you all the way to the Father. That’s where the power is. That’s where eternal life begins.

P.S. Yes, Scripture shows moments where believers addressed Christ directly—Stephen cried out, “Lord Jesus [Master Yahshua], receive my spirit” (Acts 7:59), and Paul pleaded with the Lord about his thorn in the flesh (2 Corinthians 12:8–9). These weren’t “wrong.” Christ hears and responds. But notice—they are the exceptions, not the pattern. Christ never commanded us to pray to Him. His clear teaching was: pray to the Father in My name.
