If You Already Have an Immortal Soul… Why Did Jesus Need to Die?
Let’s be blunt.
You’ve probably heard two things your whole life:
- You have an immortal soul.
- Jesus died to save you from death.
Here’s the problem: both can’t be true.
If you already have an immortal soul, you can’t die.
If you can’t die… what did Jesus die to save you from?
Let’s think this through:
- If your soul lives forever, death isn’t real—it’s just relocation.
- If death isn’t real, there’s no need for resurrection.
- And if there’s no resurrection, Christ died for… what exactly?
“If Christ is not risen, your faith is futile… Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.”
—1 Corinthians 15:17–18
Paul didn’t say they “moved on” to heaven. He said they perished—unless they’re raised.
The whole gospel hinges on one thing:
Jesus (Yahshua) died because we die. And the only solution is resurrection.
But I Thought the Soul Was Immortal?
Most churches teach that. But the Bible doesn’t.
“The soul that sins shall die.” —Ezekiel 18:4
“The dead know nothing.” —Ecclesiastes 9:5
“Only God has immortality.” —1 Timothy 6:16
“This mortal must put on immortality.” —1 Corinthians 15:53
You are mortal. You don’t have eternal life—you must receive it (Romans 6:23).
The Bible doesn’t say the righteous go to heaven when they die. It says they sleep in the grave, waiting to be resurrected when Christ returns (1 Thessalonians 4:16).
Let’s Be Honest—This Changes Everything
If the dead are asleep, not alive in heaven, then what about all the dead villains?
What about Hitler?
If he had an immortal soul, then he’s either burning now—or being tortured forever in some sadistic hell.
But if the dead know nothing, then Hitler is gone. Dust. Inactive. Awaiting judgment.
This doesn’t make sin less serious.
It makes resurrection more essential.
Because without resurrection, there’s no justice. No reward. No future.
And no need for a Savior.
So Where Did the Immortal Soul Idea Come From?
Not from Moses. Not from Christ. Not from Paul.
From Plato.
Greek philosophers taught that the soul was immortal—independent from the body. Early theologians soaked in that worldview, blending Greek ideas with Scripture.
They didn’t get it from the Bible. They imported it.
And Satan? He introduced it in Eden:
“You will not surely die…” —Genesis 3:4
The first lie ever told… is still the foundation of Sunday theology.
Here’s the Truth You’ve Never Heard:
You’re not going to heaven (or hell, or purgatory, or limbo) when you die.
You’re going to sleep in the grave, waiting for Christ’s return.
But if you surrender to Him now, He promises something far greater than floating on clouds:
- Immortality through resurrection
- Rulership in His Kingdom
- Real life in a restored world
Not a ghost story. A government. A future. A Kingdom.
“Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection.” —Revelation 20:6
