The Good News Most People Have Never Heard
Ask ten people to explain the gospel, and you’ll hear familiar answers.
Jesus died for your sins.
Believe in Him.
Go to heaven when you die.
The first two are true—but incomplete. The third is not the gospel Christ proclaimed. Yet none of them, by itself, is the whole gospel Christ proclaimed throughout His ministry.
The greatest news ever announced has been reduced until many sincere Christians have never heard the message Christ Himself called “the gospel.”
The gospel Yeshua (Jesus) preached is the good news of the coming Kingdom of God. It announces that Christ will return, replace every human government, establish lasting peace, and reward His faithful saints with rulership in that Kingdom. The Gospel Begins With a Coming Kingdom
Before looking at the whole picture, it is worth remembering what the previous six essays established. Week 22 identified the gospel itself. Week 23 established the Kingdom as a literal government. Week 24 traced how that message was replaced. Week 25 exposed the reduction that replaced it. Week 26 (Why the Church Exists) named the Church’s present task. Week 27 (Why Christ Must Return) showed why that witness has a deadline. Together they build one argument.
When Christ began His ministry, He preached “the gospel of the kingdom of God” (Mark 1:14–15). The gospel is first an announcement — not of humanity reaching God, but of God coming to rule humanity.
Daniel foresaw that moment: “The God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed” (Daniel 2:44). The gospel begins with God’s government because only God’s government can accomplish what every human government has failed to achieve.
The Gospel Explains Why Christ Must Return
Humanity cannot bring lasting peace through its own wisdom or power. Week 27 (Why Christ Must Return) already established why. Left to itself, human government cannot reach that peace safely, and Christ’s return is the only intervention Scripture presents in which humanity survives and God’s purpose is fulfilled.
The return of Christ is therefore not merely a cherished hope. It is the certainty that brings the gospel to its promised conclusion.
The Gospel Gives the Church Its Mission Today
Before that Kingdom arrives, Christ commissioned His Church to proclaim it — the mission Week 26 (Why the Church Exists) traced in full — announcing the Kingdom faithfully while preparing the people God is calling now to serve in it.
The Church is not called to build the Kingdom by human effort.
It is called to bear witness to the King who will build it Himself.
The Gospel Ends Where God’s Government Begins
The announcement finally becomes reality. John saw what the redeemed would ultimately do: “they shall reign with Him a thousand years” (Revelation 20:6). The gospel is therefore not merely forgiveness of sin. It is the announcement that God’s government is coming — and that He is preparing future rulers for that Kingdom even now.
Why This Matters For the Kingdom
The world does not simply need better politics, stronger economies, or improved technology. It needs a righteous King and a righteous government.
That is the good news Christ proclaimed.
It explains why He came the first time, why He must return, why the Church still exists, and why God is calling people today.
The gospel is not merely good advice.
It is God’s declaration of what He is about to do.
