Yahshua: Creator, Not Created
Last week we established that the One who became Yahshua (whom the world calls “Jesus”) existed before Bethlehem as the eternal Word — the divine Being through whom the Father created the universe. That truth raises an immediate question many religious groups have answered incorrectly for centuries.
Was Yahshua the first creation? A being so exalted, so unique, that God fashioned Him before everything else — and then created everything else through Him?
It sounds reverent. It sounds humble. It is wrong.
And the error is not minor. If Yahshua is a created being, His sacrifice cannot do what Scripture says it does. The entire plan of salvation depends on getting this right.
Scripture teaches that Yahshua is not part of the created order — He is its source. Every passage that describes His role in creation excludes Him from the category of created things. The logical implication is unavoidable, and it carries profound consequences for what we believe about God, salvation, and the destiny of humanity.
“All Things” Means All Things
The key passage is John 1:3: “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
That second clause is the one that demands attention. Nothing that was made was made without Him.
Now consider what happens if Yahshua were Himself created. That would mean at least one thing that was made — His own existence — came into being without Him. That directly contradicts the text.
John does not say most things were made through Him. He does not say all things except the first. He says nothing that was made was made without Him. There are no exceptions written into the passage. The only way to honor what John actually wrote is to place Yahshua outside the category of created things entirely.
Paul Closes the Door
Colossians 1:16–17 expands the argument beyond any possible exception:
“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.”
Paul lists categories deliberately. Visible and invisible. Physical and spiritual. Thrones and dominions — angelic authorities. All of it came through Yahshua.
If He is the Creator of the entire angelic realm, He cannot be an angel. If He created every spiritual being in existence, He cannot be one of them. The Arian argument — that Yahshua was the first and greatest creation — collapses here. There is no category of created being left for Him to occupy.
Paul adds one more phrase: “in Him all things consist.” The word translated consist (Greek: sunistēmi) means to hold together, to be sustained. Yahshua is not only the origin of creation — He is the ongoing reason it does not fly apart. A created being does not sustain existence itself.
What “Firstborn” Actually Means
One passage is frequently misread to support the created-being view: Colossians 1:15, which calls Yahshua “the firstborn over all creation.”
Firstborn (prōtotokos) in Hebrew and Greek usage carries a meaning of preeminence and rank, not merely birth order. Psalm 89:27 uses the same title for David: “I will make him My firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.” David was not the first king born — he was the preeminent one.
The context of Colossians 1 confirms this. The very next verse explains why He is called firstborn: “For by Him all things were created.” His preeminence over creation is the reason for the title, not evidence that He belongs to it.
Why This Matters For the Kingdom
This is not abstract theology. It is the foundation of everything God is doing.
Last week we saw that Yahshua’s name — Yahweh saves or Yahweh is salvation — declared His mission before He accomplished it. But salvation carried out by a created being has a ceiling. A finite sacrifice can only cover finite guilt. The reason His death atones for all of humanity across all of history is precisely because the One who died was the Creator of all humanity across all of history.
Hebrews 1:2–3 identifies Him as the one through whom the ages were made, who upholds all things by the word of His power. This is the Being who will return as King of kings to govern the earth. His authority to rule comes from the Father (Matthew 28:18) — and is grounded in the fact that He built what He is coming to restore.
And Romans 8:29 reminds us that He is “the firstborn among many brethren” — meaning the path He walked from glory into humanity and back into glory is the path God intends for us. We are being prepared to enter the Family of the very Creator of the universe.
Conclusion
The question of whether Yahshua was created is not a secondary debate. It sits at the center of everything — who God is, what salvation means, and what our destiny actually looks like.
Scripture answers the question without ambiguity. The One through whom all things were made cannot be numbered among the things that were made. He is before all things. He sustains all things. He created all things!
That is not a description of a creature. It is the description of the Creator Himself.
Read Colossians 1:15–20 and Hebrews 1:1–3 this week. Pay close attention to the language of all things and before all things. Let the scope of those words tell you who Yahshua actually is.
